Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a Cannes films festival staple, we all know. Though her initial appearances were recorded more for her fashion faux pas than her cinematic contributions, the lady has marked her attendance every year. So, in that respect 2011 isn’t any different.
But what is unusual is the news that Sonam Kapoor, the four-film-old actress, who was allegedly asked to step out of the L’Oreal Cannes contingent by Ash over concerns that Sonam might replace her as the L’Oreal mascot, has been extended an invitation to attend the event along with her this year.
Aishwarya, who has been a face of L’Oreal for over a decade now will also be joined by Freida Pinto of the famed Slumdog Millionaire movie.
In fact, so keen is Ash to present a untied front with her fellow beauties, that she’s insisted, “I am happy that Sonam and Freida, both beautiful women, are being invited to the festival this year. India will have a stronger presence, which is a clear sign of the growing importance of the country.”
In the 14 years that L’Oreal Paris has sponsored the world famous film fest, this will be the first year that Freida and Sonam will represent the brand at the Cannes.
“It has always been my dream to walk the red carpet at Cannes,” enthused Sonam. “I look forward to meeting actors and filmmakers from the world over and attending screenings of some interesting films.”
